Best Freelance Work Spots in Darwin

It’s been a massive year for me with projects, comedy and juggling motherhood and work.

As a creative freelancer one thing I try to do is work in different locations (eg cafes, bars, libraries). The atmos and the coffee are very important to my productivity.

So at the end of 2022 here are my top 5 places to work as a freelancer.

#1: Kopi Stop

  • Easy winner. Incredible coffee and the service is attentive, but chill (they leave me to write then I have a flow). Bright lights, a good coffee music playlist and the Singapore set breakfast is perfection. Also they great me by name every time… it makes me feel happy (I’m here nearly every week now)

#2: Lucky Bat

  • Northern suburbs, close to home and easy parking. Love getting there early and grabbing the table against the wall so I can hide from people popping in to grab takeaways. The dark lighting gives a different vibe which has been great for comedy writing.

#3: Stone House

  • Afternoon writing sessions with a chardonnay. It’s hard not to bump into people you know here, but I find it’s a solid spot to smash out some writing. The whole aesthetic is nice and it’s the best wine list in Darwin.

#4: Beachfront Hotel

  • I have written so many jokes here! A beer and the cricket in the background. Lots of white noise and people having fun, it’s good atmos for a writing session. Northern suburbs bonus points too.

#5: City of Darwin Library

  • Pick a location any location. I’ve sat and written at the libraries in the CBD, Nightcliff, Casuarina and Karama. Free aircon, WIFI and a spot to sit. Also a good spot to come up with material cos you can grab a magazine or book… or just watch some of the more eccentric people in there.
