NHWNT AOD Mural Project

At the end of 2018 I had the joy of working with around 40 young people from Palmerston on the Neighbourhood Watch NT Alcohol and Other Drugs Harm Reduction Through Art project!

Across 2 months local groups provided workshops for the young crew who identified the key messages they wanted to share with their community about alcohol and drugs. The kids then worked with graffiti artist Shaun Lee to transform the Driver Shops into a community mural.

I assisted with film workshops and worked with the young people to produce the shot documentary on their work.

I am so impressed with the final artwork and also the positive messages these young Palmerston citizens came up with... refreshing to see this optimism in a group often marginalised by the media.

The project was funded by the Health Department’s Alcohol and Other Drugs Youth Grants program to promote community safety and awareness of the risks of drugs and alcohol. Huge thanks to everyone involved including NHWNT, Palmerston YMCA, Territory Families – Youth Outreach Re-engagement Officers, Anglicare NT, Balanced Choice, Headspace Darwin, CatholicCare NT and Larrakia Nation.
