This year I was super proud to work with young people and the City of Palmerston to put on the Sanctuary Sessions program. Sanctuary Sessions was a free family-friendly music event featuring kids entertainment, food vans and local artists from around the Palmerston/Darwin region. The events were coordinated and programmed by 5 young event coordinators that I had the joy of mentoring through the process.

The idea is based on the City of Darwin Sounds@Sunset program, but customised to suit the Palmerston community and the ideas of the event coordinator team.

We ran 3 events at Sanctuary Lakes in Gunn and had around 800 people attend across the three dates. The initiative employed 18 NT musicians, 3 young photographers, 6 local food stall providers and engaged 5 young event coordinators who learnt new skills in artist liaison, marketing, event production, safety, MCing and community engagement.

A huge thanks to the young crew Denique, Callan, Jaala, Sebastian and Tahlia were awesome to work with. Also a massive thanks to Leah from City of Palmerston who made the initiative happen and was absolutely brilliant to work with.

Here’s some photo highlights from the events.
