I’m absolutely thrilled and proud with this project. In September 2015 I went to the Alice Desert Festival and ran comedy workshops with locals leading to a showcase performance at the Festival. I took a gamble pitching this idea to the Festival and a lot of work went into developing the workshop and also promoting it to the right people. In the end it was a huge success. We had 15 people register for the workshop (capacity) and from that 15 there were eight comedians who felt comfortable with their material to perform at the showcase. Even better the showcase night had over 100 people there! It was a very proud moment especially because the local comedians absolutely killed it – they were hilarious.

And now I’m thrilled to share that the group of comedians from the workshop have started the Red Centre Comedy Crew – a local group that are putting on comedy shows for people in Alice Springs. It’s absolutely amazing to know the gamble paid off and that there has been a solid arts development outcome from this idea.

Thanks to the Alice Desert Festival for supporting this initiative and thanks to all the local comedians that got involved! The most isolated comedy club in Australia is going to be amazing!
